What A Difference A Year Makes

Last night marked the end of Dibello’s one-month drinking hiatus. Since it was a monumental occasion - we decided to class up a little bit and go to Clink at The Liberty Hotel. We chatted over fancy cocktails (and Guinness for Casey). We surprisingly made it through the night – despite the Saturday night we had that left me waking up in Medford, instead of my cozy North End apartment that is a 2-minute walk from where I needed to be at noon. Oh well.

We had so much to celebrate. For one, Dibello’s back on the wagon! But also, Matt shot his first feature this past weekend, where he got to film a rape scene. I performed in my first corporate shows this weekend – which was exciting because it’s a big personal step, and it was my first official time getting paid to do what I love! But it was for kids… so; not humping the stage was a big deal for me. And Casey… well… Casey ate half a burrito then fell asleep.

BUT, Awkward Compliment got a write-up in the Metro! THE METRO! THE METRO!!!!!! THE #1 NEWSPAPER IN THE WORLD!!!! No, but seriously – we’re so excited. It has our picture and everything! It’s highlighting comedy in Boston – and things to do – and it lists IA, IB and US! But it’s our picture! So, we were very happy. (Thank you, Pat Healy!)

It made us think about everything we’ve accomplished in the past year. This time last year I wasn’t even in AC yet, and they hadn’t even had their first show yet. Then I joined the group, and we rehearsed and we did shows when we could get them, and I particularly enjoyed spending time with these people who actually cared about doing improv. Then we started hanging out and doing bits and going to T.G.I.Friday’s and bonding and certain things occurred, and we just became something! Then we got a weekly show (thanks to Dibello and Matt for not having jobs!) and here we are today.

Individually, we’ve grown and it has really lent a hand to our group dynamic. We became stronger improvisers because we really put the effort into making a “career” a reality. I’m proud of us! I really love Awkward Compliment. It’s one of the best things I’ve ever been a part of in my life. I thought when I left school that I wouldn’t know what I’d do without Seriously Bent, and don’t get me wrong, I loved my time on SB and to this day they’re still considered my best friends. But I’m glad I found that sort of “band of brothers” bond with another group of people. And this time I was a part in its creation – well, sort of. I mean the creation of what it is today!

They’re the brothers I never had nor wanted! But I love them all to death. Go us! Also, please comment if you’d like to attend Matt and Patty’s Workshop Series. Thanks.
