Mixer.

Last night, one of my best friends from home, Jess, came to see the House Teams. When I first started doing house teams, in March of 2007, Jess was at every single show. She never missed a night. Then, as it happens, your friends get sick of watching bad improv – specifically watching you do bad improv. But, today is her birthday and she wanted to have a good night last night, so I put on the table a good night of improv (like, for real this time! They’ve come so far!) and a few glasses of wine. She was sold.

The night was a huge success. Every team had an amazing show. Every single team. The House Teams are my little baby, I love them so much. I was there since their conception – since they were just an idea in Norm’s head. And since that first night, two-and-a-half years ago, they’ve become their own entity. I was glad Jess could see what they’ve become – and I was glad she got to meet and spend time with all the stupid idiots that stole me away.

After the show, we went out and got some drinks. Now, I don’t like to mix my friends a lot. It makes me feel nervous and awkward – I don’t know what to talk about, I don’t know how to balance conversation, and what if the people just don’t get along or have anything in common? There’s also the fact that I’m kind of a different person with improv people. Especially since all of my friends are boys and they treat me like SHIT – so it’s unlike what my relationship is like with Jess. She’s nice to me and treats me with respect. What a world.

But, they got on swimmingly! Dibello came around with four beers in hand, which she found hilarious. Casey showed her pictures of Clover and Jess showed pictures of Lucy. We took shots for her at midnight. They made fun of her accent. She felt included, I didn’t feel the least bit awkward, and that – my dears – is a good night! I had Seriously Bent at one table, Awkward Compliment at another, improv friends & directors & my roommate scattered about– and Jess.

Boston and Everett met last night. And nobody got shot.

Happy 23rd Birthday, Jess!
