"Grown-ups never understand anything by themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them."

i miss being a kid during Christmas.

When bedtime was early and anticipation was high.

When strange men came into your home dressed as Santa Clause.

When spending time with family wasn't a chore or annoying.

When all you wanted was Will Smith's "Getting Jiggy with It" single. (Oh, was that just me?")

When everything was just more simple.

Grown ups just don't get it.

Today, as it took me 5 hours to drive to 3 different Best Buys to track down the $300 remote car starter for my Dad, and pick up last minute odds and ends, spending money I know for sure I don't have to spend... I just felt frustrated. Frustrated that there's this stupid day at the end of every year where the world goes absolutely INSANE finding gifts and spending money and getting stressed - pretending we give a shit about anyone other than ourselves.

And then, on that day, everything shuts down. We open our bullshit presents. Then we can't do anything for the rest of the day because the world is all of a sudden Catholic again. And we make awkward conversation. We fight with our families. And then we return to our normal lives, a tad more jaded and exhausted than we were before.

But, on the other hand, I like the few days off from work. I like the relaxation (after all the stress). I like the bullshit presents I get (this is my first post on my new MacBook! I am Carrie Bradshaw now!). And, I actually do enjoy bustling around (blasting Michael Jackson at disgustingly loud volumes while I drive) to get gifts for the people I love.

So, maybe we do get it. But we just know too much about the world and it ruins it for us. But that's why we're allowed to drink. Which I'm doing. Right now.
