Shuffle Me This.

At “full-time job” - I’m on my own little island. While everyone listens to their headphones at their desks, I kind of can’t. I have to answer phones and greet people. So I have an iPod dock. And, that’s great and all. But, sometimes, my music is awful. What I really mean by that is I have awful taste in music. AND! Really inappropriate taste in music.

Example One: “The Seed” by The Roots and Cody Chesnutt. Some of the lyrics: “I push my seed in her bush for life, it’s gonna work because I’m pushing it right, if Mary dropped my baby girl tonight, I would name her Rock and Roll.” But, it’s my favorite song. And also my ringtone! Appropriate all around.

Example Two: “Little Voice” by Hilary Duff. There’s no reason a 23-year old girl who grew up post-Lizzie McGuire years (yet still watched it despite this fact) should have a song from Hilary Duff on her iPod. It might even be slightly acceptable if it’s like… her singles. Maybe “Come Clean” or anything else she put out – but no. I have like the hidden track, track 13 that was only available on CD’s bought at Target. (Not really.)

Example Three: “Peaches and Cream” by 112. I love this song, so much. I don’t know why. It’s so fun and gross. But imagine you are a client, and the first thing you hear is, “Won’t stop girl you know I can’t get enough, Wanna taste it in the morning when I’m waking up, Peach cobbler in my stomach when I eat it up, Got your legs around my neck so I can’t get up.” In case you’re lost in translation – they’re talking about a vagina!

Example Four: “I’ll Make A Man Out Of You” from the Mulan Soundtrack (sang by Donny Osmond) (or “Friend like Me” from Aladdin, which came on immediately after). It’s a Disney movie. I’m 23. Let’s move on.

Example Five: Every single Backstreet Boys song ever created. I have albums that weren’t released in the U.S. that I got from England or something when I was like 11 or 12.

I have to say, I generally don't keep it on shuffle.
I usually play certain playlists like, "Michael Jackson"
"Museum Mix" (jazz) or a "Work Appropriate" one.
But... sometimes... I deal with the embarassment... and shuffle away.
