Mad Men vs. Life

Has anyone been watching Mad Men this season? I'm not going to give anything away. But HOLY SHIT. It's so good! It's definitely one of the best seasons - which is great because I hate when shows lose steam as seasons progress. Steam is not lost!

Here are some life lessons I've learned through Mad Men this season:

"You want respect? Go out there and get it for yourself."

"People tell you who they are, but we ignore it because we want them to be who we want them to be."

We spend all of our time wanting something other than what we have, and then when we get it - we spend all of our time wishing for what we had.

It has always been a struggle for women to get respect in the workplace. Even with people you're friendly with. It was crazy to see it happen in these episodes and think, "Well, yeah, I still go through that every day." C'mon people.

On another "I am woman, hear me roar!" note... We've watched Peggy grow over the past few years, and she struggled and fought her way into a male-dominated career and she's succeeding. But she still has always longed to be one of the guys {like when she showed up to the strip club to meet the client that time, or when she asks why she's not invited places all the time}... and then she went into the men's room, and realized that's not who she wanted to be at all. She wanted to be a girl. Girlz rule!

I often struggle with that. "If I were a guy, I'd get this..." but, in the end, I love hanging out with my guys. And I like cracking jokes with my guys. But every now and then, I'm going to be grossed out and offended. Because I'm a woman. And I'm allowed that!

Maybe this season's just hitting close to home with me - from several different story lines! But honestly, it's teaching me a lot about life. In a really awesome, well-dressed way.
