I'm thankful for all the usual things - family, friends, a job, a roof over my head, etc. But, F that. I don't want to just repeat what everyone else is saying all over the internet and all over dinner tables across America!
But, yes, I'm still really thankful. Everything could be a lot worse and it's times like these, this one day of the year, that we're all forced to sit back and be thankful for those things. But what about the other little things?
For one, my ankles. I'm thankful those are still in tact! Every day it's like a battle. Am I going to make it through alive? Am I going to fall and break something? I almost nearly do every single day and still, after all these years, I've never broken one. I've sprained, twisted and bruised... but never broken. (Knock on wood.) And I'm happy about that.
I'm thankful for people who like to hang out and drink just as much as I do on a Tuesday night.
I'm thankful for dresses, because they're just the god damn best thing to ever happen to me. Without them, I'd still be in sweatpants and sweatshirts and I'd have no style!
I'm thankful for manicures and pedicures and face moisturizer and Harry Potter for just existing! I'm thankful for Warby Parker, who gave me the best damn pair of glasses I've ever known (and then gave a pair to some other person in need of glasses!)
And, of course, there's floss, Sharpies, coffee, comfortable beds and pillows, Gatorade, shoe inserts that protect the arches of your feet, wedges that make your legs look good but are easier to walk in than heels, texting which helps you get all the thoughts out of your head right away without even having to wait... and KISSING! Do you guys remember kissing? And how nice it is? And how much fun it is to have your heart beat really fast right before you're about to kiss someone? It's so fun, right?! I'm thankful for it!
Joking aside, of course I'm grateful for my family who always answers my calls and helps me and supports me with whatever I need despite how stubborn I am. And friends who make me laugh. And Awkward Compliment, for still being a thing that I have in my life! And IA, for helping dreams become realities. (And adults become batshit insane human beings.) And my students, who love to nerd out about comedy just as much as I do. And handsome men who are handsome. Or just one. And for the people who read this blog. And yoga, for helping me get out of my brain sometimes when life gets really tough. Because that's all that really matters, right?
No. Sharpies matter! I'm still really thankful for them. They make writing so much fun!
