It's the end of October... and Halloween is coming up just next week! But to me, I just don't care, because CHRISTMAS SEASON IS COMING UP.
On Monday evening, I got home from teaching (and a long bad day) and cracked open a bottle of wine and watched the ABC Family Christmas movie, The Mistle-Tones! I loved every single minute of it. It doesn't matter that aisles are filled with Halloween candy and there are pumpkins all over the place and leaves getting all up in my boots... just right around the corner is my favorite season of all and that's Christmas time.
When I was younger, I used to get excited about November 1st. I'd watch QVC all day long and watch them sell Christmas gifts to the type of people who bought their Christmas gifts from QVC. And when everybody complained about the radio stations that started playing Christmas music too soon (or the ones that just switched over to ALL Christmas music in general) I'd quietly nod my head, although on the inside I was jumping with joy. I'd decorate my house on Thanksgiving, and it'd take all I had to not do it before.
It's just hard for me to not get in the spirit. And it's even harder for me to contain the spirit to a measly couple of days, or even just one month of my year. Why not let all of November and December be dedicated to CHEER AND HAPPINESS AND COMFORT AND JOY?!?
So, in closing, I say get ready for a season of fun and good times. Go shopping for things you can't afford and buy your friends and family some presents... or search Pinterest for great, affordable homemade ideas. Wrap yourself in a big old scarf while listening to "All I Want For Christmas Is You"! Throw on "Elf" and "Love Actually" and my personal favorite, "Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol" for the first of MANY viewings! Sing carols while you get ready for your day! (Destiny's Child "Opera of the Bells" is a real fun and difficult one.) And give in to the Christmas cheer!!
Or holiday cheer. Whatever makes you feel comfortable.
