the barrett behind barrett all

Hi, I’m Patty Barrett!

I’m a development coach, leadership consultant, program facilitator, and professional comedian.

My ✨ purpose✨ is to empower every individual to become who they already are by engaging their full potential and living their fullest life.

That means having self-compassion for being human, self-awareness of strengths and barriers, and motivation to do uncomfortable things and make shit happen.

HOW I GOT HERE

In 2005, The Killers were on the radio and a young Patty Barrett was having a revelation.

If I wanted to be ✨coming out of my cage and doing just fine✨ I’d have to change out of my oversized Gap sweatsuit (way before oversized matching sets were “in”) and push myself beyond my comfort zone.

Ugh.

So, I kissed my wallet-sized photo of Tina Fey for good luck and signed up for an improv comedy class.

What I thought would be a simple tool for coming out of my shell turned into an almost twenty-year career. Just like Dorothy landing in Oz, improv turned my world technicolor. It offered community, purpose, flow, and confidence that I never thought possible, especially in a room packed with 200+ people.

In 2014, I moved to Los Angeles to further pursue my comedy dreams, but ended up becoming an HR Manager. Tale as old as time.

In L.A. I learned many things: the scent of decaying palm trees, the feeling of wearing a tank top on Thanksgiving, the back roads that avoided the 101 to the 10 to the 405, and the fact that leadership development was a career.

In 2018, I moved back to old, cold Boston, and was recruited into Reebok & adidas (sports!) on their Learning and Development team. If improv brought color to my world, facilitating development programs brought it into sharp focus. I discovered the power of my voice, perspective, and experience, enabling her to help others unearth their voices, perspectives, and experiences.

In 2022, I began training with the Co-Active Coach Training Institute, and my world transformed into 3D! (Or is it VR? Maybe AI now? Losing the metaphor here.)

Through coaching and being coached, I identified my values and crafted a purposeful life in alignment with them. The most remarkable revelation was realizing that my seemingly varied journey had been guiding me towards a career that I am uniquely qualified for.

I know it’s cheesy (I can see my comedy friends cringing), but I honestly feel as though I’m living a life that I never thought possible for me. I constantly told myself conspiracy theories and actually believed them.

“I’m too weird to be taken seriously.”

“I’m too independent to be in a relationship.”

“I’m too disorganized to work for myself.”

“I’m too emotional, loud, distracted, anxious, TOO MUCH.”

Now I know that I am all of those things but I’m successful because of them, not despite them.

My blended experience in comedy, human resources, and professional development provides me with a unique perspective and an engaging approach. With humor and openness, we’ll focus on whole-person growth by aligning your goals, values, and vision.

I will help you dismantle the stories you tell yourself and BELIEVE what you’re capable of.
